Van Buildout

Unaka Gear low profile thru axle fork mount This fork mount changes the game as far as space efficiency when carrying bikes in your van. You can gain nearly 3 vertical inches over traditional bike fork mounts.

Around the house

Wildlife camera – We get a fair number of animals coming by the house and this motion activated camera lets us know who visits. We’ve used many different varieties of wildlife cameras and this one is the best mix of image quality and low cost. Due to the cold temperatures where we live, it is best to use lithium batteries. Browning has also provided good customer support as we had a unit fail and they replaced it with no questions asked.

Tools

Compound miter saw (chop block) – there are so many things to cut and getting a precise cut makes everything else go much better. This works great for wood, metal & plastic.

Jigsaw – Sometimes the cuts to be made are not straight. The jigsaw comes in handy for when other saws won’t fit the bill. This is a corded version which is cheaper and more powerful than battery. If you can’t be tethered by a cord, the 20v battery version also works well.

Camper Van Buildout

Bike fork mount – We’ve used several generations of fork mounts in the van. The latest & greatest mount is the Rocky Mounts Driveshaft mount which has proven to be the most versatile and easiest to use.

Bike stand – one of the first things I built into the van is a bike stand on the back door. Bikes need constant maintenance and working on a bike on a bike stand makes everything easier.
